New Chip Reese Award

December 27th , 2007 by StayPuff

Chip Reese to be Honoured

A few weeks ago the Poker world suffered a significant loss when David “Chip” Reese passed away in his sleep. He died pneumonia on December 4th at the age of 56.

Chip Reese was regarded as one of the greatest poker players ever to play the game, and in that I refer to any poker game. He was a main stay at the infamous “Big Game” played in Bobby’s Room at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. In 2006, Chip Reese won his Third World Series of Poker Gold Bracelet in the inaugural H.O.R.S.E. Event. The event which is a mixed game format consisting of Hold’em, Omaha eight or better, Razz, Seven card stud and seven card stud Eight or better was a staggering $50,000 USD buy-in. The event was created to bring out a true all around poker player, and after pressure from his daughters who would ask him why in the new age

of poker they never saw him on television entered the WSOP after a long departure from playing in the event that was caused by the dispute between Benny Binion and his sister.

Chip Reese was the youngest player inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1991 at the tender age of 40. He wrote a chapter (Seven Card Stud) in the famed Poker Super systems by Doyle Brunson (The Poker Bible). After his passing Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson was quoted as saying “He’s certainly the best poker player that ever lived”

On December 12th 2007, Jeffery Pollack commissioner of the WSOP made a wonderful announcement. Effective the 39th WSOP 2008 that along with receiving the sought after Gold Bracelet by Corum the winner of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. Event this year event #40 would receive the David “Chip” Reese Award.
