Professional Poker Player Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey of Full Tilt Poker

Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, California but grew up in Roselle, New Jersey. The first time Phil was introduced to Poker and cards when he was 3, his Grandpa taught him how to play 5 Card Stud. At age 16 he told his family that his goal was to be a professional poker player and started playing in poker games which was hosted by his friends dad. At the age 18 he started getting into the casinos in Atlantic City with a fake ID.  For the first couple years he was a losing player, but as time progressed he became better and better, and before you know it, he was living in Atlantic City.

When Phil was 21 he entered in 2 WSOP events in 2000. He made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet.  With the prize money he won, he started playing in cash games throughout Vegas and became an extremely solid and feared player. In the year 2002 Phil Ivey lit up the poker world and won 3 WSOP bracelets in 3 different poker events.

Phil Ivey now resides in Las Vegas where he regularly plays at the high limit stakes at the Bellagio. He is one of the top players who play in the big game ($4,000 - $8,000).

Personal Strengths:

- Works very hard at improving his own game

- Ability to outlast and maintain focus against his opponents during marathon sessions

Best and Worst Poker Game:

According to Daniel Negreanu Phil Ivey's best game is 7 Card Stud. If Phil Ivey was to have a bad poker game it would be Omaha Hi/Lo, but it's far superior compared to the majority of poker players.
